Worth The Wait Launches Abstinence Blog

By Gideon For-Mukwai | July 18, 2008

Northern Nevada‘s leading abstinence education provider, Worth The Wait (WTW) has launched an online forum for young people to connect, communicate and inspire one another as a way to stay abstinent until marriage. According to WTW‘s Executive Director, Mechele LaBrie, this new online resource is the first of its kind. On this subject. “Most teenagers or ‘screenagers’ hang out on the web, so it is only appropriate that we reach out to them where they are hang out to provide a positive message of encouragement on relationships,” the Executive Director said recently in Reno.

The coming of blog.wtwnv.com blog is a new dimension to existing resources aimed at supporting young people in making and keeping good choices in life. WTW is uploading positive messages, stories, videos and statistics about relationships on how young people can lead more productive lives that are free from drugs, alcohol and pre-marital sex.

“In a world full of negative messages, young people need to connect and relate to others who share their view point on issues like abstinence,” Mrs LaBrie added.

Observers believe that an online blog is certainly a very affordable point of contact for the Milenials or Mosaic generation because they spend a significant amount of their time facing the online on the Internet which is both an affordable and a convenient converging point for teenagers and young people.

As part of its activities in 2007, Worth the Wait presented relationship seminars to over 13,000 students. In recent presentations, WTW found out that almost 70% of middles school students and 50% of high school students say that they will wait until marriage to have sex. WTW believes that the new blog will extend the reach of the program to more students and also re-enforce the message of abstinence to those who have benefited from it before.

Worth The Wait Launches New Program for Parents

By Gideon For-Mukwai | July 10, 2008

Worth The Wait (WTW), Northern Nevada‘s leading abstinence education provider is launching a parent outreach program dubbed PRIME Program. According to Michele LaBrie, Executive Director of WTW, PRIME stands for Parents Resolved to Inspire, Mentor and Educate children on positive relationships.

The goal of the new program is to re-enforce the message of abstinence from drugs, alcohol, violence and pre-marital sexual activity that often undermines education and career goals of young people. The parent program complements an existing school program which has been in place since 2004. The school program has been presented in over 18 schools across Northern Nevada.

The PRIME program was inspired by the fact that over 73% of the students consistently indicated that they trust information presented to them by their parents. Backed by this expressed demand Mrs. LaBrie believes that the involvement of parents through the PRIME program will strengthen the way parents engage their kids on cultivating healthy relationships. PRIME program will also focus on providing parents with relevant tools, techniques and strategies to connect and communicate with their children on the choices and consequences of pre-marital sexual expression.

In the weeks ahead, the PRIME program coordinator will reach out to the community to explain how WTW can assist parent with the message of abstinence. Programs will be presented at community centers, service clubs and non profit organizations throughout Northern Nevada.

In 2007, Worth the Wait presented to over 13,000 students. In recent presentations, they found that almost 70% of middles school students and 50% of high school students say that they will wait until marriage to have sex.

Carson High School Students Thrilled by Abstinence Message

By Gideon For-Mukwai | July 10, 2008

Reno, Nevada, 07022008, Summer students at Carson High School have embraced Worth The Wait‘s (WTW) message of abstinence, healthy relationships and family values according to Mechele LaBrie, Executive Director of Northern Nevada ‘s leading abstinence education provider.

“It is our goal to reach every single student in middle and high schools with a positive message of abstinence until marriage,” Mrs. LaBrie said, adding that “Abstinence is the only 100% effective method of preventing Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and ending teenage unplanned pregnancies that take a huge toll on many families across America.”

Last week, students at Carson High School‘s Summer School learned the importance of cultivating healthy relationships during the course of four days. Over 35 students glued their thoughts and minds to the message presented by Mrs. Bethany Barry, one of WTW‘s leading presenters on abstinence till marriage. The e relationship educator stressed the importance of abstinence in a sex-infatuated world. “Pre-marital sex takes away your focus from your books and your future. More often, premarital sex only distracts you and often you run the risk of getting depressed from the fear of contracting an STD or becoming pregnant,” she said.

During the course of the training, the students learned how to set and achieve goals in life based on ASPIRE curriculum. The ASPIRE program teaches young people how to stay focused regardless of media bombardments of youth regarding the glamorous portrayal of sex and sexuality. It also provides critical information on the causes and consequences of pre-marital sexual activity based on real life stories and the latest research from the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Apparently some of the students caught the abstinence till marriage ‘bug’ and made commitments to be abstinent. One of the students, Miss Rebecca Battisberger, junior at Carson High School said, “This program had a great impact on my personal decisions. At first, I expected the program to pretty much force me to choose abstinence. I was wrong. The program taught me that abstinence is a choice and it can change every aspect of my life. Because of this program, I have chosen to stay abstinent and live a healthy life.” Other students also made similar pledges to stay abstinent until marriage.

Worth The Wait regularly conducts fun and lively workshops for youths and parents throughout Northern Nevada. Each program is customized and presented by trained speakers and trainers. Some of WTW‘s speakers are nationally recognized motivational speakers and artists. They share their stories, struggles and successes with the students to educate, inform and inspire young people and their families to make better decisions regarding sexual activities.
