Worth The Wait (WTW), Northern Nevada‘s leading abstinence education provider is launching a parent outreach program dubbed PRIME Program. According to Michele LaBrie, Executive Director of WTW, PRIME stands for Parents Resolved to Inspire, Mentor and Educate children on positive relationships.

The goal of the new program is to re-enforce the message of abstinence from drugs, alcohol, violence and pre-marital sexual activity that often undermines education and career goals of young people. The parent program complements an existing school program which has been in place since 2004. The school program has been presented in over 18 schools across Northern Nevada.

The PRIME program was inspired by the fact that over 73% of the students consistently indicated that they trust information presented to them by their parents. Backed by this expressed demand Mrs. LaBrie believes that the involvement of parents through the PRIME program will strengthen the way parents engage their kids on cultivating healthy relationships. PRIME program will also focus on providing parents with relevant tools, techniques and strategies to connect and communicate with their children on the choices and consequences of pre-marital sexual expression.

In the weeks ahead, the PRIME program coordinator will reach out to the community to explain how WTW can assist parent with the message of abstinence. Programs will be presented at community centers, service clubs and non profit organizations throughout Northern Nevada.

In 2007, Worth the Wait presented to over 13,000 students. In recent presentations, they found that almost 70% of middles school students and 50% of high school students say that they will wait until marriage to have sex.
